Attending school during the Covid-19 restrictions…

Updated March 2021

Here’s what you need to know for coming to school at the moment. We’re making it as ‘normal’ as we can do for everyone whilst working within some strict guidelines. As usual, any questions, please ask. Call or email, get in touch on Class Dojo or drop us a line on social media.

How do I access rapid lateral flow testing for our household?Tests are available for families that have children in a school. School do not have any tests to give out and they must be accessed by one of the means listed at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/rapid-lateral-flow-testing-for-households-and-bubbles-of-school-pupils-and-staff.

Are Breakfast Club and After School Care running? To helps support our families, both Breakfast Club and After School Care are running. Please only use these provisions when necessary so that we keep the numbers down. Wherever possible, the children are split between Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 to try to maintain bubbles.

Has drop off and pick up changed? Details are below, but the basics you need to know are that you drop off from 8.40am to 9.00am and pick up at 3.15pm. Only the children are allowed into the school site but will be helped and escorted as necessary…we’re all very good at carrying coats and sandwich boxes now! If you have more than one child, you would usually wait with the younger ones whilst the older child/ren can make their own way in.

If the children are making their own way in from the car park, will someone be supervising them? Absolutely. Staff will be outside directing everyone as well as inside collecting class groups together.

Will the children be using hand sanitizer? We have washing stations all around school. Children will regularly be washing their hands but we do also use hand sanitizer. This has worked well over the phased return and lockdown period and is the guidance given by the local authority. Please let us know if your child has any allergies to hand sanitiser.

We’re new to the school and haven’t been able to get to the uniform shop because of lockdown. What do we do? Firstly, don’t worry. You can order our uniform online but if it gets stuck in the post like everything else, then children are welcome to start school in their previous school’s uniform or regular smart clothes. Please do then buy the correct uniform as soon as is practically possible.

What about PE? The class teacher will let you know what day the class are doing PE. Please send your child in that day in something comfortable that they can spend the whole day in and will be warm enough to do PE outside (weather depending!) This can be a tracksuit they’d usually wear at home or leggings with a t-shirt and sweatshirt. We’ll let you know when we go back to using the regular PE kits.

What else do I need to think about? Here’s some things to consider now that we’re all back in school:

  • Everyone needs their own water bottle. Best to put a label on it so that it’s easy to identify. It should go home every day to be washed. It can, as usual, be refilled here throughout the day.
  • Everyone also needs their own pencil case with some basic supplies. These can be cheap and cheerful so don’t worry about spending a lot of money on them.
  • School uniform will need to be washed more frequently. It’s just another practical thing we can all do to help stop the virus spreading. The staff are doing the same thing.
  • Can my friend pick my child up? Please bear in mind government guidance about household mixing etc.
  • If you need to speak to the School Office, please call us on 0113 887 3680 or email office@primleywood.co.uk. We would love to see you all but please keep actual visits to a minimum and follow social distancing. We’ll be doing more via Class Dojo so make sure you’re on there!
  • Please let us know by 9.00am if your child is feeling unwell and will stay off school. Please do not be offended if we recommend that they may need to go for a test. Likewise, tell us if that’s what you’re doing or if you’re planning on isolating as a family
  • If you think your child has Covid-19 symptoms, please review the guidance on the ‘Bubble Closures‘ page which will give you the steps you need to follow.

Dropping Off – gates open 8.40am, close 9.00am

**Only one person to drop off and pick up please to ensure social distancing can take place. Please make sure you’re wearing a face mask and remember that we are working to reduce spread between households, so only collect your own child/ren.**

Reception

Reception children will enter school through the double gates opposite their play area. Please follow the path along to the inner gate (leading to Reception) and be prepared to allow the teacher to take your child into school. In the past we have encouraged parents to accompany their children into school, but we cannot do so in the current climate. Unfortunately, you will not be able to take your child any further than the inner gate where we will collect them and escort them into school. I totally understand that you will worry about your children settling and there might even be a few tears at first, however, we will look after them and make sure they feel comfortable and safe.

Years 1 and 2

Please bring your children through the usual entrance and stand with them on the front playground socially distancing from other parents. Please keep your children with you until they are collected by a member of staff and taken into school. If you have a Reception aged child drop him / her off first and take their sibling in Year 1 or 2 into the front playground via the usual gate. If your child has sibling in year 3 – 6 drop them at the car park side gate (near the bike shed) and allow them to walk in on their own.

Years 3 to 6

Please bring your children through the usual entrance and stand with them on the front playground socially distancing from other parents. Please keep your children with you until they are collected by a member of staff and taken into school. If you have a Reception aged child drop him / her off first and take their sibling in Year 1 or 2 into the front playground via the usual gate. Picking up – gates open 3.15pm

Reception

If you have older children please collect your younger children first and walk down the side of the school (the Year 2 classroom) to collect the older sibling/s.

Years 3 to 6

Please come through the car park side gate and wait (socially distancing from other parents) for your children to be seen out to you. Please collect your younger children first.
